Bec's Gala Dinner

On Friday 4th May, Bec’s Gala Dinner was held at the Carousel, Albert Park Lake, Melbourne, to support the wonderful services that ONTrac at Peter MacCallum Cancer Center provide.

Nearly 400 guests enjoyed this fun and moving night, and with the generous support of everyone involved we raised an amazing $50,050. We’re sure that you will agree that this is a fantastic result.

Bec’s Gala Dinner was organised to continue fundraising for ONTrac at Peter Mac that the Jago family began in 2009 to support their daughter Bec, who was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2006.  Sadly, Bec passed away at the age of 19 on the 11th October 2011 but fundraising efforts for ONtrac continue in memory of her.

The funds raised from this event will be presented to ONTrac at Peter Mac to specifically support the specialist services that the ONTrac team provide to all Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer patients, including age appropriate training courses and development activities as they go through their cancer treatment.

It will also continue to support the spaces where young people can share experiences, have some fun and take some time out from the hospital environment and be themselves.

We thank everyone involved at Active-Adval and particular thanks for the support from our suppliers Boxlink, Megara, Paperlinx and Vega Colour Group who helped make this night so successful with the beautiful crane decor. The generous support that has been shown does make a difference to the lives of young people affected by cancer through fundraising events such as this.

Kind Regards,

Bec’s Gala Dinner Committee.

We are Running for the Kids!

We are running to raise money for The Royal Children’s Hospital – Good Friday Appeal!

On Sunday 1st April, a group of our spirited Active-Adval employees will run either the short course (5.2kms) or the long course (14.38kms), around some of Melbourne’s most iconic and unique landmarks.

Being more of the “run down café” type of runner myself, this is putting me way out of my comfort zone to say the least!  So it would really help encourage and support our training if you could donate a few dollars to this wonderful fundraising event!

A bit about the Appeal…

The Good Friday Appeal is the public face of fundraising for Victoria’s Royal Children’s Hospital. It has provided more than $211 million to the hospital since the Appeal began in 1931. 90 cents in every dollar raised is used by The Royal Children’s Hospital to purchase medical equipment and to fund research.

It is all about helping those who are our smallest and most vulnerable.

The great strength of the Appeal lies with the thousands of people from all walks of life, who volunteer their time, expertise and creativity to organise fundraising activities throughout the year. It is a non-denominational, non-political organisation that exists solely to raise funds for The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

Thanks in advance!

Target's Golden Sustainability Kids Week Window enters the 2012 Global POPAI Awards!

Due to our recent success at the 2011 Australian POPAI Marketing at Retail Awards, our Target Kids Week Window was presented with the Gold Sustainability Award making it eligible for entry into the 2012 Golden POPAI Awards.

At Active-Adval we are passionate D4S (Design 4 Sustainability) practitioners, meaning we aim to "go beyond how to make a 'green' product and embrace how to meet consumer needs on a social, economic and environmental level."

We were initially attracted to Target's Environmental requirements of their brief so it was a true honour to gain industry recognition in the Sustainability category not to mention the fact that we are now able to compete on a global level against competitors from over 12 countries.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held in Las Vegas: 29th February 2012.

Good work and Good Luck team!

New 4-colour line arrives! Our new SIAS Multigraphica 4-colour line has arrived at Mulgrave

To round off our large format capabilities, in July 2011 we commissioned a smaller (1850 x 1250 mm) 4-colour screen press capable of printing direct to substrates up to 50mm thick (such as foam boards). This high-speed press is both economical to operate and also avoids traditional mounting costs by printing direct to thick display materials.

The new 1850 x 1250 mm line has a 'moving table' system which will allow us to print to a wide range of substrates that can't be run through our other gripper-fed machines.

Active Asia Expansion

Whilst we have been sourcing through our own Hong Kong and China based offices for several years, and for many more years before that through buying agents, during 2010 and 2011 we have significantly expanded our Asian presence through the recruitment of a full complement of designers, account managers, program managers and administrative staff.

To obtain access to a wider range of Chinese suppliers we are currently relocating our China sourcing office from Guangzhou to Shunde, further South. Shunde is less congested and is rapidly becoming the new epicentre of industry in Southern China.

The aim of our Hong Kong based sales and design team is to serve regional accounts with region-wide programs – and not to necessarily compete with local suppliers on a country by country basis.

Having our own fully staffed offices in the region give us easy access to a wide range of suppliers and makes quality monitoring and development far easier.

AFI Branding Solutions joins Active Display Group

In 2008 Active Display Group acquired a 50% interest in AFI Branding solutions, a family owned and run fabric printing supplier who was both a supplier and an emerging competitor to Active. The owners were keen to grow the business and immediately saw the additional opportunities offered by an association with the Active group.

This has been an immensely successful relationship with AFI growing well beyond expectations fuelled by the large number of sales introductions made through the Active sales team.

Purchase of the Luscher® screen exposure system

We have always reinvested a large proportion of our retained earnings in capital expenditure to keep our print facility in particular equipped with the latest technology.

During 2008 we implemented significant upgrades to our screen printing facilities with the purchase of Australia’s first Laser Computer to Screen exposure system.

The Luscher® Jet Screen DX laser exposure system allowed us to increase our screen print resolution by around 80% from the industry standard 40 to 45 line ruling, to between 65 and 85 line screen ruling.

During the same year we installed our largest press – our fully automatic SIAS 5-colour line, capable of printing images up to 2.65 metres by 1.65 metres. At over 40 metres in length, this remains the largest screen press in Australia.
